THE MOST DANGEROUS WOMEN'S SPORT
Cheerleading's the number one sport for women. Cheerleading became
worldwide and became very elite over the years. Stunting, tumbling, and dancing advanced beyond what the expectations were for it. Having more than 25,000 cheerleaders attend the emergency room since 2007 and continues years. "In a matter of second you could be knocked out from stunts, after having a concussion from cheerleading for over two months now, I am not sure if we understood all the safety that needs to be put into stunting" said Alyssa S., high school cheerleader.
Stunting opportunities advanced to an outcome that is overlooked by millions of judges. With the hours of practice going into a two minute and thirty second routine, girls give it their all. Doing no matter what to impress the judges, cheerleaders pull tricks that amaze the crowd. Becoming paralyzed is a
chance of risk when being tossed in the air. "You just have to keep on practicing until you hit the stunt perfect without anyone getting hurt" said Georgia P., high school cheerleader. Whether you land on your back or fall out of a stunt after doing an extension heel stretch, having the bases arms locked above them while the flyer brings her one leg directly next to her head. Competitive sports have specialist whose profession's to learn, take classes, and instruct girls the safety of the complicated stunts they are going to perform. While high school does not have as educated coaches, they try and put on as thrilling of a performance to excite the crowd.
Performing tumbling that could break their wrists, ankles, legs, back, or even neck, they take the challenge to show how far they can push themselves. Not being tight and locking out made you lose focus and in seconds you could be injured. "Learning new tricks is hard and you just have to keep on practicing to make sure you do everything right because f you don't, you could get really badly hurt." said Erin S., peters township cheerleader. Girls perform tucks, where you do a backwards roll in the air, layouts, where you are in hollow body position, or even fulls, where you do a three hundred and sixty degree twist in the air.
